Factotum

directed by Bent Hamer

with Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor, Marisa Tomei, Fisher Stevens

Bent Hamer (director of Kitchen Stories, a deadpan comedy which we loved) brings us Factotum, based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Charles Bukowski. The film stars Matt Dillon as Henry Chinaski, Bukowski's alter ego, a struggling writer who supports himself with a string of low-paying jobs as he battles his obsessions with alcohol, women and gambling. "An acidly funny work... [Dillon] gives his finest performance since Drugstore Cowboy." (LA Weekly) "The film looks great on the screen, and Hamer has commissioned a terrific musical score from Kristin Asbjornsen, who has set a few of Bukowski's poems to haunting, jazzy music."
