A touching and highly enjoyable film about love and loss in New York City. Hungarian emigre director Paul Fejos shot this highly regarded (but almost forgotten) urban romance with cinema verite street scenes and several sound sequences. "Fejos's sense of humor, trick-shot visual vocabulary, and masterful montage are as impressive as any silent director's....[Lonesome] is the perfect New York City romance." (Village Voice) Recently re-restored by the George Eastman House, this print is a new improved 35mm print with hand coloring and a remastered soundtrack. This is one of the fascinating films that, made originally as a silent film, was released as well as a talkie. Alloy's performance incorporates their original score and the three short dialogue scenes from the sound version. This film represents a wonderful chapter in the history of film. Shown with Buster Keaton's hilarious short, One Week (19 mins).
